Obama’s Broken Hearts

Do you remember being a kid and waiting, in grand anticipation for this thing you could hardly wait for, and when you finally got it, it wasn’t quite what you expected it to be? Your anticipation is fantastically high, but the let down is significantly lower when you realize it was just a thing. In fact, your heart is broken to the point where you eventually disregard the anticipated thing altogether.

Human nature, just plain old human nature.

The Obama-kind tapped into the manufactured discontent running amuck in the country, telling the American people over and over again how miserable their lives were until it became widely implicit, regardless of the obvious truths.

But the question needs asking, how many more times are people going to buy into the fact that either Obama didn’t know, had no part in, or was just caught off guard and with predictable anticipation, disassociated himself from the troublesome individual or state of affairs?

I believe human nature will run its course and the growing hope for change so many voted for will grow into heartbreak. When this occurs, the let down will be equally as broad as the hope that swept across America. It will be the first time in the history of the world that so many hearts have been broken and disappointed at one time, because when the hope fails to live up to the hype and one who might have believed so passionately begins to question excuse after excuse, wisdom is forced to give way to reason. One need not be a soothsayer or prophet to see the writing on the wall, one just needs courage enough to read it.

Up to this point, people have ignored Obama’s missteps and without realizing it, have given a green light to misbehavior. The effect this period will have in American history will be far reaching. However, America’s slip into blindness began long before Obama. When the American people allowed President Clinton too openly tell the American people that, no longer shall men of good character and good standing reside in the Oval office, none should be surprised that Obama, in spite of his past associations and questionable history, he should now be the one who would lead our nation.

My point is this, when you realize that that thing is nothing more than a thing, your disappointment turns to resentment and resentment to disbelief in that thing or anything to do with that thing. Can you imagine an America that no longer believes in those who lead her? That the one time they opened themselves up, as a whole, their hearts where broken, and they realized that Camelot is nothing more than child’s fantasy. They realize that people are just people looking out for their own self-interest, and a society that already feels that they are owed something by somebody else, could find themselves believing in nothing.

It would seem that most Americans already feel that they need not respect the nation’s leader, neither the man nor the office. What are they going to do when the one they believed in turns out to be shoddier to that which they already hate?

I gotta tell you that the thought of where we might be headed as a nation, the recipe by which we pick our leaders today, the selfishness plaguing our society, the two-faced behavior emanating from our leaders, breaks my heart.
