How many times must white America be blatantly discriminated against, and you do and say nothing? I sit back and watch this and I get angry.
I read an AP story today about a couple in Chicago who said that they would go out of their way to shop at black only business, as if the black business in their area, or anywhere in this country are being discriminated against any more than any other business. Or, as they put it, to support the growing of more black businesses. And on its face, that is a noble thing. But perhaps this couple hasn’t been keeping up with current events…
- Black President
- First black Secretary of State (Colin Powell)
- First black female Secretary of State (Condoleezza Rice)
- Best know black media mogul
- Greatest Golfer in the world
- Top female tennis players
- Highest grossing actor
- Fastest racing driver
- Brightest Astrophysicist
- Super Bowl winning head coach
- Most successful brain surgeon
- Fastest human on the planet
…not to mention the millions of black owned businesses throughout the country. The couple mentioned the fact that there was no black owned Walgreens to show for the 400 hundred years of blackness in this country, well, that is simple fix. Go and by a stake in the franchise and solve the problem yourself if it worries you so and put it in a place where you think it will make a profit. I say to you, good luck, I hope the best for you in that Endeavour.
Obviously that couple in Chicago has not heard of the idea of ‘building a better mouse trap’ and people will come, and they will buy it. They, however, are suggesting that we should support black only business simply because they are black owned.
THAT’S CALLED RACISM!
White America, you are the blame for this mindset. This has been a common theme for quite some time in this country and you have sit back and allowed this mindset to go unchallenged, out of guilt. Shelby Steele described this behavior in his book ‘White Guilt’. An excellent read, I might add.
Any debt thought owed by black Americans by white Americans has been paid in full by the nearly four hundred thousand who died fighting in the American Civil War. And believe me, I’ve heard the argument at how those who died didn’t do it to free the slaves. Well, it does not matter their reasons for fighting and dying, the fact is they fought and they died and the end results, was the end result. Blacks were freed, so when I thank those from the past who made life possible for black Americans today, those men who died in the Civil War are included.
I will not go into the many whites who played a role in helping to free slaves in the underground railroad or the whites who assisted black Americans after the civil war and on through the civil rights movement, however, this is obviously something that couple in Chicago is unfamiliar with.
White America, you owe black America nothing…
In the way of how blacks were treated in the past, there is nothing owed by you. If we are too ever get past the past, then we have to ignore those who choose to dwell in it. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard blacks mention how they felt as if they were owed something by white America because of our past together. I most cases I said nothing; I would just look at them in astonishment.
Then I watched America elect a man for President who had no more experience as an executive than I did, less even. He was elected for no other reason than the fact that he was a black man who sat in a racist church for 20 years and learned how to give a good sermon, who looked cool with his shirt off, even without muscles.
I, at least, owned my own business at one time, and I do have muscles. (smile)
White America, the next time you hear a story like that of the couple in Chicago, if you say nothing, think, if you do nothing else, think…
“That debt has already been paid in full!’
