Why are liberal-like individuals, who call themselves Conservatives, picking fights with those who stand-up for Conservative values? It’s like they don’t understand the true meaning of the word…
Unwavering: firm in view or purpose and unable to be swayed or diverted from it
Since there are those who are advocating a change in the way, Conservatism, should be applied, please explain what it is you mean when you say, “…the Republican party has to be a broad party that appeals across the country.”? – Mr. Gingrich.
Colin Powell has time and again disappointed me when it comes to those whom I at one time held a great amount of respect for, but perhaps he could again change my mind by explaining, exactly, what it is he means when he says we should “broaden ourselves” to be more relevant.
Answer me this General Powell, what would a command be like if, with each blowing wind or each downturn, the Commander switched his opinion or altered his orders of the objective to fit the current will of his followers or potential followers? Now I know combat is an ever-changing element and tactics are often altered to fit current situations. Nevertheless, the object remains the same. To Win.
So why would Conservatives, become Liberals?
Why would Conservatives not hold fast to their ideals, which at the core, are it’s objectives. Conservatism is not an ever-flowing thing, it is a belief deeply rooted in the survival of our way of life, our culture, our country. A core principle that has, since the founding of human kind, led to advancements for all.
Smaller government…
Right to life….for even the unborn…
Individual responsibility…
Did I mention, smaller government?
Are you, General Powell, and those who think like you, suggesting that Conservatives no longer hold these truths to be self-evident? Self-evident that a ‘smaller government’ keeps those like Obama from attempting to force us to drive ‘clown cars’, simply because an inconclusive science says so?
Or, that Conservatives should rethink the idea of ‘when life begins’, and that at any stage of the growth of a child in the womb, is one where the termination is viable?
Or, that Conservatives should feel that ‘individual responsibility’, actually means, ‘it is always some one else’s fault’ when things don’t go your way. When the fact is that individuals make choices and they have to live, or die with them.
Colin Powell, you are a prime example of why Conservatives should never, not ever, change what we believe. You once voted for Republicans, now you vote Democratic, for belief’s sake.
Well, the Conservative movement did not change from the eight years of President Bush to the election of Obama.
The Republican Party did, but then we’ve been losing elections since that change occurred.
So, that begs to question…
Why should we listen to a man who can’t even commit to the basic ideals of one party or another?
I think you voted for Obama simply because he was black, or should I say ‘African American’.
But, if I’m wrong, get on national television and lay out the direction in which you think the Conservative movement should go.
If you don’t do it, then I’ll think what I think and believe what I believe and listen to very little of what you have to say, from this day forth.
Because if I’m right, you are so wrong.
