When the blindfold of justice is removed, our courts become a place where the rule of law is no longer the guiding principle by which decisions are made by our judges.
So if a judge comes in to court one day and is having a bad day, and he has grown accustom to making decisions and rendering rulings based on how he feels, instead of the rule of law…
…you could have a very bad day, if you’re the one whose life is being weighed out by that particular judge.
If that judge is peeking out from under his blindfold and doesn’t like what he sees standing before him for one reason or another…
…God help you.
The Connecticut Firefighter case, was one of blatant discrimination and could have been properly decided in the lower courts, by anyone with a decent heart and a unambiguous understanding of right and wrong. Yet, without a clearly written statement as to why, Sotomayor decided the white Firefighters did not deserve equal protection under the law.
Sotomayor appears to be a very emotional individual who harbors a deep-rooted grudge against those of the white race. She has been very careful, in some aspect as to when and how she would display this, and in others blatantly open. She’s been able to disguise her ability to rule or cause others to rule on decisions relating to this harbored hatred by either sitting on boards which outwardly have a hands-off façade, or making decisions without giving clear reasons for doing so, leaving those who view these decisions later with little understanding as to how and why she reached them.
I think this week of confirmation hearings, if done correctly, will highlight her hatred and peel back the layers of inward prejudice, costumed as a caring sensitive Latino woman.
I have very little faith in the GOP leadership, but maybe just once, they will step up to the plate and hit a home run. These are Major League Players being pitched a slow pitch, so it couldn’t get any easier with Sotomayor…
…I will always continue to have faith in our system of laws, but as for the GOP leadership, I want hold my breath.
